"Our Mission is to ensure that each of our residents learn to live productive lives, free from addiction".
A Nurturing EnvironmentThe Granada House has a proud history of successfully helping people in recovery. Our mission is to ensure that each of our residents learn to live productive lives, free from addiction. A strong emphasis is placed on accepting residents who have disabilities such as paraplegia, blindness, amputation, HIV / AIDS or Traumatic Brain Injuries. By providing a safe, stable environment and good role models, Granada House is able to focus on the importance of having a productive life, involving work or volunteer activities. The residents form a true mosaic, coming from every walk of life, and representing a multitude of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Each resident contributes something unique and valuable. As a result the House has become a cohesive, nurturing community that responds to individual needs, while building a sense of mutual understanding. It is the personal relationships among the residents and the staff that help each individual build a stronger sense of self. Granada House was modeled on the experience of other successful facilities, while adding new components and adapting to changing needs. Over the years, there has been an increasing use of experts, who have added many innovations to the available treatment strategies. As part of our continuing effort to improve services, Granada House has continued to create affiliations with health care providers and other community organizations who share our mission. Granada House maintains ongoing relationships with acute care hospitals, psychiatric facilities, and rehabilitation hospitals as well as rape crisis centers. Other resources that offer acupuncture, dental care and holistic medicine have been added to the roster of available services. A Valuable MissionBy focusing on the importance of a productive life, Granada House is able to help the person in recovery turn to a responsible lifestyle based on sobriety, awareness and enhanced self-esteem. The program works to create the special kind of residential setting that helps recovering individuals acquire the internal and external resources to resume sober, independent lives in the greater community. Every aspect of the program is designed to help the individual change from within, while helping him or her to interact positively with others. A minimum of two staff members is on duty 24 hours a day. The staff, many of whom are recovered alcoholics and drug abusers, share their knowledge, experience and optimism with the residents. Mandatory one-on-one weekly counseling sessions serve to answer any questions or concerns about continued abstinence and daily living. Group counseling helps residents learn to share their experiences and their strengths with others. Health-oriented information sessions are also part of the schedule. These mandatory meetings are held several times a month. A trained family counselor is on staff to discuss family issues with the residents. If the resident agrees, the counselor will meet with the members of a family to discuss any possible problems or potential issues. All aspects of the counseling program are completely confidential.
An Ongoing CommitmentThe aftercare planning process begins when the resident first enters Granada House. Plans are made around housing and financial issues, so that when medical, mental health or other social services are established, the aftercare plan is kept in mind. Continuing substance counseling for graduates of Granada House is recommended and usually begins one month before graduation. Granada House will refer former residents, who need a variety of support systems, to the appropriate outside agencies. To insure their continued sobriety, all graduate residents are invited to return to the house on a daily basis to participate in programs and to become part of existing activities. As a result, many graduates of the program stay involved as volunteers or become certified and join the staff. |
