Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Residential Home and a Sober House?

A Residential Home is typically a 6-month structured program with qualified staff and licensed case workers where their stay can be covered by insurance. Sober Houses are paid for by the client and typically have a house manager as staff for the house.

What are the steps of treatment?

If you or a loved one are struggling with substance use disorder, the standard continuum of care begins with detoxification.

Following detox, individuals may choose to continue to Clinical Stabilization Services or Transitional Stabilization Services. These programs work to connect clients to the residential rehab level of care, which Granada is proud to be a part of.

CSS, TSS, and HOC Case Workers will reach out on you or your loved one's behalf to be screened via a Zoom interview process and placed on our waitlist.

How do I determine if a client is eligible?

Our clients need to come from a controlled environment in order to come to our program, such as a CSS, TSS, or Department of Corrections and have their case manager reach out on their behalf. This is in order to ensure that people are medically stable and the right fit for our program.

If a client's mental health needs more attention than just their substance use disorder, then a co-occurring enhanced program would be a better fit.

What are the rules?

Here at Granada, we work to enable our clients to rejoin the workforce and integrate into a broader recovery community.

  • Clients are expected to be working full-time by the end of their first month with us. This gives them the opportunity to learn how to manage finances and re-entry into their own community after their time here.

  • Clients are required to attend house meetings Monday through Thursday.

  • Clients are also required to attend 5 outside recovery meetings per week. We believe the benefits of being a part of a holistic therapeutic community outside of our program can help carry clients out of the loneliness and despair of Substance Use Disorder.

  • We regularly tox-scren clients. Any tox-screen with a positive result for an illicit substance will end with the client being referred to a more appropriate level of care for the safety of the client and of the milieu.

Can my family member visit?

In order to maintain the privacy of all our residents/clients, visitors are not allowed on the premises. This is in order to adhere to HIPPA regulations, as well as to promote a treatment environment where our residents/clients are encouraged to focus on themselves.

While we appreciate the support that family and loved ones can provide, during this crucial period of development we believe that our residents should be focusing on how to build self-efficacy in handling their own feelings and worries.

What should a client bring with them?

For your arrival at Granada House, we recommend bringing no more than 2 weeks' worth of clothes as we have laundry units in the house.

What transportation is nearby? Can a client bring their car?

Granada House is located less than half a mile from the Boston College branch of the Green Line, and a few blocks to the 57, 66, and 70 bus lines.

After 3 months with us, clients are permitted to bring their own vehicle, however we cannot provide parking.
